Son of Robert J Campbell and Anna (Annie) M Fickes. He married Clara Isabella Broadwater about 1916. They had three children: Alice Jean, Daniel Earl and Dale Taze. After his young death, his wife Clara moved to South Florida and operated a boarding house near the beach in Miami. At the time of his young death, he was a painter and paper hanger. He is credited with the invention of the tool still used today by many to make straight lines using a string covered with red chalk that is stretched out and "snapped" to create a straight edge for many uses in construction.
