Great grandma Nettie! How I remember your visit in Arvada CO from Seattle. I was only in kindergarten, and it was exciting to meet you at Stapleton Airport in the old days when we could watch you walk off the plane on the steps. You took time to sit with me and teach me how to make gift tags from old Christmas cards - how well I remember those brief moments!

Only now do I know what a life you lived. Your mother died when you were only a year old, and your father died a few years later. Your sister, Rebecca Potts, took you in, but she died when you were only 6 years old. We deeply appreciate the generosity of Richard and Mary Young, who took you in and raised you as their own. When you married Theodore Newton Simms, they decorated the house and assured that you would have a beautiful, memorable day.

And now we know the family story that you passed down to your grandchildren: that we were related to an Indian Princess by marriage. Your grand uncle, Jonathan Perrigo, married the daughter of Chief Keokuk, the namesake of Keokuk, IA.

Thank you, great grandma! May you forever sleep with the angels.
