WARREN - Charles R. Armstrong, 74, died at 3:13 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 10, 1934, in Independence, W.Va., a son of Samuel M. and Ada Pearl Ball Armstrong Sr.
Charles graduated from Newburg High School in West Virginia and joined the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War and attaining the rank of airman 1st class. After the war he came to the Warren area and was employed by H.K. Porter-Peerless Winsmith as a machinist for 41 years, retiring in 2000.
He loved genealogy and exploring his family history and was proud of his West Virginia heritage. He also was proud of the fact that he had his private pilot's license. He was a member of the Newburg High School Alumni Association and was raised in the Baptist faith. He enjoyed traveling, especially in his motor home, and he loved his dogs that he called his ''boys'': AJ, CJ, CJ II, Duke and Sam.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Emma Virginia Seiple Armstrong, whom he married Dec. 8, 1956; a sister, Linda (George) Yuricek of Warren; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Jones of Brookfield, Deborah Hartshorn of Youngstown and Connie Armstrong of Middleburg, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and four brothers, John David as an infant, Samuel M. Jr., James Marlow and Harry Dale.
On Thursday morning, July 16 at 3:13 AM a beautiful bright star appeared in the sky. That is the time my wonderful, beloved husband Charles died. We had been married 52 years, 7 months and 9 days.
I was so blessed to have Charlie as my husband and I miss him terribly. It is so lonesome without him. The only comfort is knowing he is no longer suffering.
I know by this time he has found "our boys" at Rainbow bridge and they are all watching over me and waiting for the day I join them. I am also sure he is busy working on the family tree to fill in the blanks he couldn't find here on earth.
I will love you always Charlie just as you told me a few days before you died. You were and are so special and I heard nothing but good words and praise about you. I hope you were able to see your funeral and approved. So many people were there and many I didn't expect. That is a tribute to the wonderful man you were.
I know you fought hard to live but your body just gave out. One day sweetheart we will be together again with "our boys" and family members. Just remember "I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU"--Your wife Virginia.
