William Clarke, a bachelor, a Sergeant in the Connaught Rangers, from Manor Street, Waterford, son of James Clarke, a (occupation undecipherable - possibly Steepler), married Elizabeth Sinnott, a spinster, a Tailoress, from John Street, Waterford, daughter of Philip Sinnott, a Tailor, on 14 October 1899 at the Church of St. John, the Evangelist, Waterford.

William Clarke, aged 40, married, a Sergeant, died at the Military Hospital, Barrack Street, Waterford on 29 May 1915.
The cause of death was Pneumonia, of 17 days duration.
The informant of his death was Elizabeth Clarke, widow, of Henry Street Terrace, Waterford, who registered the death on 4 June 1915.

SERGEANT WILLIAM CLARKE
The death took place on Saturday at the Waterford Military Hospital of Sergeant William Clarke of the Connaught Rangers. Deceased spent 21 years in the army. He was out on pension, but re-joined at the outbreak of the war and came home on leave some weeks ago to see a son who was ill. He contracted pneumonia and complications set in which proved fatal. He belonged to an old Waterford family, his father having a skin and hide store in Manor Street in years gone by. His remains were removed from his residence, Henry St., on Sunday (the coffin being covered with a Union Jack), and the funeral took place on Monday to St. Mary's, Ballygunner.
