Livingston Enterprise - Friday, January 10, 2003

Mistidawn Nicole Peterson died Tuesday, January 7, 2003. She was born in Livingston on September 4, 1971 and graduated from Park High School in 1990. She continued her education at Montana State University and graduated with honors in 1994 with a degree in Theater Arts. She was chosen Miss Teen Montana and was selected as the third runner up for Miss Teen of America. She was very involved with the Montana State FFA and served as its State President and "FFA Sweetheart."

She spent three years in Los Angeles working in the movie and film industry and returned to Livingston to work in the "Horse Whisperer" and other feature films. She worked as a sales representative for KPRK from 1999, where it gave her the time and opportunity to share her love of Livingston with the people in her community. She was an active member of Holbrook United Methodist Church in Livingston.

Her love for others extended far beyond herself. Her love for children was total and complete. Like one of her favorite characters, Peter Pan, she didn't want to grow up, she wanted to live in the creative, colorful life of children. The open honesty of children, and their uninhibited and unbridled love of life filled her with such joy. You could always find her with the children wherever there was a choice between them and adults. Like Peter Pan's friend, Tinkerbell, she spread fairy dust and magic wherever she went.

Mistidawn's love for our Lord was complete as well. She never pushed her faith on anyone, but those who experienced her came to realize that God was a vital part of her being. She lived her life through Jesus Christ, in all his Grace, Honor, Splendor and Beauty.

In knowing Mistidawn, we are challenged to continue her magic. Find joy in children. Discover glory in sunrises and sunsets. Make each day your best. Fill a room with brightness and joy just by walking into it. Be determined to make someone's day better beacause you were a part of it. Count your blessings. Really listen. Be a best friend.

She is survived by her mother Helen; brother Shawn (Lisa); two nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene M. Peterson.

Memorial services will be on Saturday, January 11 at 11 a.m. at Holbrook United Methodist Church in Livingston, with interment following at Mountain View Cemetery in Livingston.

Memorials may be sent to the Eugene and Mistidawn Peterson Scholarship Fund; Park High School FFA Memorial Fund or to Holbrook United Methodist Church "The Children's Corner."

Bozeman Pass Wreck Claims Local Woman
Mistidawn Peterson is described by those who love her as a woman who always had a smile on her face and who loved Livingston.

Peterson, 31 of Livingston, was killed in a one-vehicle accident as she was driving to Bozeman on U.S. Interstate 90 Tuesday on the west side of the Bozeman Pass.

Peterson went off the shoulder of the road on the left side at 9:52 a.m. and overcorrected her 1995 Ford passenger car, accorindg to a Montana Highway Patrol report. The car then went off the right side of the road and landed on its roof.

Peterson was the only one in the car and no other vehicles were involved. The report said she was wearing a seat belt and alcohol was not involved. Speed was reported as a factor.

The 1990 Park High School graduate was a sales account executive for KPRK Radio in Livingston.

"She has been a part of this community her whole life and she really cared about local business," said Bill Koch, one of her many friends. "It wasn't just because she sold advertising. She really wanted people to imagine something different for what Livingston could be."

Koch described Peterson as "all bright smiles, that's what she was."

Peterson was the daughter of Helen Peterson, a retired Livingston elementary school teacher, and the late Gene Peterson, a Park High School math teacher. She is survived by her mother and her brother Shawn (Lisa) Peterson and their three children.

Peterson was very involved in community theater in Livingston and after graduating from Montana State University Bozeman moved to Los Angeles. "In L.A. she became really involved in the production end of theater," said a friend, Tiffani Early.

Peterson returned to Livingston about four years ago to live with her mother.

"She loved life, she really loved her family, and she just lived life to the absolute fullest," Early said. "She tried to be up every morning to go out and watch the sunrise and she loved to watch sunsets in Montana."

Friend and co-worker Valerie Vallentyne said Peterson will be dearly missed. "She was charming, witty and truly a good person. She always put others first," Vallentyne said.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Franzen Davis Funeral Home.
