He served as Corporal in the 15th Virginia Infantry Regiment C.S.A. in company H for 8 months until he had to request discharge to take care of his childern due to his wife's illness.
After the death of his first wife sometime after 1862 he married again in 1868. By 1880 he had moved to Charleston, West Virginia where he spent the remainder of his life.
