Levi B. Adams was born in Eden Vermont to James Adams and Lucy Morgan Adams. His only sibling was James H. Adams, born in Middlesex, Vt in 1841, and died of disease in 1862, while serving in the Civle War.
When Levi was about seven years old he, with his family ,removed to Johnson, Vt., where they resided in the area known as Johnson Plot, and were a respected farming family.
On July 28,1862 both Levi & James walked to Hyde Park, and enlisted to join Company D of the 11th Reg.
One year after enlistment James died, and Levi had an emotional time with this. He went AWOL for 10 days, and during that time he made his way back to Brattleboro, Vt., and turned himself in. He was admitted to the military hospital for a week, then returned to duty. He finished out his enlistment and received an honorable discharge Jan 24, 1865.
Following his discharge he married Carolyn M. Balch of Johnson. She was the daughter of Robert Balch and Lydia Pike Balch.
Levi and Carolyn were the parents of five children. James and Lucy died as young children. Persis died in 1885, at the age of 18 or 19, dying following child birth. She was married to James Tinker. Guy Clinton Adams married Mary/Martha Ladeau, raising a family, and living in Fairlee. He was a barber by trade.
Azariah Morgan Adams ( my grandfather) married Blanche Leach in 1906, and had a family of three. He was a sign and cabinet maker, dying in 1950.
Levi was never well enough to see his family grow.Coming home from Civil War duty with " the seeds of consumption sown", he died in July of 1877, at the age of 39.
Levi rests in the Johnson Plot Cemetery, in Johnson, Vt., along with his wife, and young children James, Lucy and Persis. In the same family spot rests his brother James, and his great grandmother Susannah Adams.
