He graduated from Ranger High School, attended Ranger Junior College and graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor's degree. Lewis was a business manager for the Institute of Religion in Houston and business administrator for Spring Velley United Methodist Church in Dallas.
Survivors at the time of his death include his parents, Leonard and Daisy Una Woods Pounds of Ranger; a daughter, Sarah Beth Pounds of Plano; two brothers, Billy Bob Pounds of Fort Stockton and L. H.
