If this isn't your mother, do not copy and paste the biography to other web sites and claim it as your work.

The only child of William Lyle Heselden and Orpha Lucille Smith , Florence was orphaned in 1939 after the unexpected deaths of her parents. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Otis Haynes Smith and Jessie Rebecca Palmer Smith.

Married to Richard Banks, Sr., they celebrated their 53rd anniversary on January 8, 2008. Surviving are six children, Rick, Jeanie, Ginny, Marsha, Jerry and Bradley. A daughter, Candace Sue Banks, preceded her in death. Also surviving is a half-sister.

While she longed to have known her parents and have a traditional family, she said her grandparents raised her with love and never complained about taking a two-year old to raise as they were ready for retirement. Her grandparents taught her the value of hard work and to show compassion to those who were in need. She said she had many memories of her grandparents giving food to transients who otherwise would have gone hungry. Growing up, she played the piano and organ in the Methodist church. During her childhood, she spent summers traveling and spending time with other relatives in the Midwest.

She loved decorating her house for the holidays and cooking holiday dinners for family members and those who might not have anyplace else to go. She enjoyed her flower gardens and tending her indoor plants. Wheelchair bound, Find A Grave was her favorite hobby in her later years. She learned to use a computer, quickly and easily learning the new technology. She loved Find A Grave and the many wonderful friends she made here.
