Edward McNamara served as Wayne County Chief Executive from 1987-2002. He also served as Mayor of the city of Livonia from 1970-1986. During his tenure as Wayne County Chief Executive he was instrumental in improving the Detroit Metropolitan Airport with a budget of $1.6 billion dollars. A new terminal was built to house the airport's main airline - Northwest. This new terminal was named McNamara Terminal at it's dedication.
