US Congressman. He graduated from the literary department of the University of Michigan in 1907 and was a reporter for Detroit newspapers. He served as a secretary to Congressman Frank E. Doremus (1911-13), secretary to Assistant Secretary of Commerce E.F. Sweet (1913-17) and as United States customs appraiser for Michigan, (1917-22). During World War I, he was manager of the War Trade Board at Detroit, chief inspector of purchases in Michigan for the Medical Corps of the War Department and recruiting officer of the aviation division in Detroit. In 1923, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-eighth Congress, serving until 1925. He was again elected as a Republican to the Seventieth, Seventy-first and Seventy-second Congresses, serving (1927-33). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was an executive with a manufacturing company until his retirement in 1948.
