Danny, a paratrooper, was killed during combat in Vietnam when a booby trap exploded. He was attached to the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam, took basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington and attended survival school at Fort Ord, California followed by jump school at Fort Bragg, South Carolina. He had made over 63 parachute jumps before going over seas.

Danny was a member of the Sanger High School Class of 1968. As a young boy, he lived in Panama with his family while his father worked building the Panama Canal. He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. James R. Appleton and two brothers Dale and Jim.
