Charles E. Kemp, 90, of Henry, Illinois died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in Peoria.

Charles was born March 11, 1922, in Jefferson County, Ind., the son of Horace Noble and Marion Dwyer Kemp. He married Gladys Anderson on June 28, 1941.

Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Gladys; his children, Charles Michael (Bev) Kemp of Henry, Ray Allen (Margie) Kemp of Carterville, Jo Beth Kemp of Rancho Mirage, Calif., and Amy (Mario) Amparan of Beaumont, Calif.; two grandsons, Joe (Tina) Kemp and David (Sheila) Kemp; and four great-grandchildren, Nathan, Shane, Aaron and Kristin.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Frances (Charles) Shepard of Franklin, Tenn., and Thelma Jane (Klinedale) Baker of Melbourne, Fla.; and a brother, Jack (Mary) Kemp of Walnut Creek, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bobby; and an infant son, George.

Charles graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He worked at B.F. Goodrich in Calvert City, Ky., and Henry, Ill., for 34 years as a plant engineer. Following retirement, he worked for Pyro Power and helped build the new boiler here at the Henry plant.

Charlie was a member of the United Methodist Church of Henry, where he sang in the choir, taught adult Sunday class and served on the board. He was instrumental in the design and planning of the new Methodist church. He had served on the Marshall County Fair Board and Library Board and was a member of the Henry American Legion.

He had served on a destroyer during World War II. He then was called back to duty during the Korean conflict and had served again on a destroyer.

Burial with military rites will follow in Henry Cemetery.
