By Pastor Pollard:

David was the only son of Lynn & Evelyn (Smith) Polhemus. Living on the farm the first part of his life, he came to love the farm animals and machinery.

At the age of six he left his family to attend the School for the Blind at Nebraska City for seven years.

In May 1963 he entered the Bethpage Mission in Axtel for the remainder of his life. David found happiness and contentment in the Christian atmosphere of the Home. He received loving care, had many friends and good times there.

Wednesday, January 7, 1970, at the age of 20 years, 6 months and 23 days, David left this world of suffering for a much better place.

He leaves to morn his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Polhemus, one sister, Carol Ann, paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Polhemus, all of Holdrege, and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Smith of Ohiowa, Nebraska, several uncles, aunts, and cousins.

As we remember David, we can be assured that with his love for the out-of-doors and his love for animals, the psalmist would surely have struck a responsive note when he wrote: "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want."

______

David had Batton's Disease, a horrible disease for which there is no cure. The disease caused him to lose his sight at about the age of five. One by one over the years he lost the rest of his senses as well. David passed away from the disease.
