Professional Golfer. Over a period of six decades he has won 128 tournaments, 48 long drive contests, and the 1978 U.S. National Open Senior Championship. He is best known for a 515-yard drive made during the 1974 U.S. National Seniors Open championship in Las Vegas, when he was 64. The drive is the longest in a professional golf tournament and is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. Despite subsequent advances in club and ball technology, the record still stands. With bachelor's degrees in physics, engineering and a doctorate in kinesiology, he applied his scientific background to develop a perfect golf swing. As a teacher he was a lifetime member of the Professional Golfers Assn. of America, author of “Golf Secrets” and conducted seminars-clinics in 23 countries. He was voted the Southern California Golf Professional of the Year in 1984 and voted one of the top 50 golf instructors in the United States by PGA of America in 1991. He also occasionally sang opera and acted. He appeared in the Los Angeles Civic Opera production of "Desert Song" in 1947 and played Judge Lang in the 1983 Michael Douglas crime thriller "The Star Chamber." Death from natural causes.
