Graduate of old Eddystone High School, Mr Knorr earned a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from West Chester University & a Master of Arts degree in American studies from Temple University in Philadelphia where he pursued his doctorate. Also studied at American University in Washington DC. Was principal of Springfield High School from 1970 until his retirement in 1990. Previously principal of Kennett Square High School in Chester County.
Mr Knorr helped establish the Festival of the Arts at Springfield High School where the Earl R Knorr Theatre was named to honor his dedication to the arts. While with the Kennety Little Theatre, he performed several major roles.
Served 2 terms on the Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Assoc of Colleges & Schools for whom he chaired many evaluation committees in the US, Europe, Africa & the Middle East. Also served on the associations board of trustees for 3 terms and became president in 1993. Spent 3 weeks as a consultant on private school evaluation & accreditation procedures in the United Arab Emirate at the invitation of the countrys education minister.
Served on the National Study of School Education executive board & was a former member of the West Chester Area School District Board of Directors.
Member of the Church of the Redeemer in Springfield where he served on the vestry, was a lay reader & rector's warden, among other roles. Received several education awards & was also the recipient of the Four Chaplains Legion of Honor aware for outstanding service to people of all races & religions.
Formerly a guide at the Newlin Grist Mill in Concord Twsp, Brandywine Battlefield in Chaddsford & at Carpenters Hall in Phila. A leader of a Great Books discussion group, he enjoyed reading & quoting Shakespeare. Enjoyed tennis, travel, fine food, gardening, Notre Dame University football, the Civil War & classical music. A longtime subscriber to the Phila Orchestra, the Opera Company of Phila & the Walnut St Theatre.

Survived by his wife of 57 years, Mildred Kent Knorr; daughter, Jennifer Harden of Manassas, Va; son, Kevin Knorr of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; two grandchildren, one niece; one nephew; one grandniece.
Service: 11 am, Saturday, Church of the Redeemer, 1545 W. Springfield Road, Springfield.
Visitation: 10 am, Saturday at the Church.
Burial: Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer, Chester County.
