Third Stroke of Paralysis Fatal To George Marks, Pearl Street.

Served as First Lieutenant in Company A 19th Indiana Infantry

George Marks, an old soldier who has been living retired at his home on Pearl Street, passed away at 6:25 o'clock Thursday evening following a third stroke of paralysis suffered last Sunday morning. He was 74 years old.

The first attack came three years ago but until the third was suffered Mr. Marks was up and about on the streets. Yesterday he was in great pain and was in convulsions. His throat had become affected and was unable to take nourishment. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Josephine Marks., who at the time of her marriage was the widow of the late Ephriam Keigwin.

Mr. Marks was a native of Philadelphia his birth occurring March 26, 1842. Soon after the outbreak of the civil war. As a young man he joined Company A. Nineteenth Iowa Infantry and became First Lieutenant. After a service of Two months, he was taken prisoner by the Confederate troops and for 300 days was confined in a military prison at Tyler, Tex. He was confined there at the same time as Philip Specht. Who resides on Meigs Avenue this City. With his daughter Mrs. Fred Dietz.

After the close of the war Mr. Marks engaged in the coal business in Osage City, Ks. But for the past fifteen years has resided in Jeffersonville. For a time he was employed by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company in Louisville but for the most part has lead a retired life in the past few years.

Besides his wife, Mr. Marks is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Rose Kendall, of Newton Kans. Where her husband is general manager of the large Santa Fe Shop, Mrs. Laura Lentz, who resides in Los Angeles, Cal., and one son, Samuel Marks, Conductor running from Hoisington, Kas. To Pueblo, Col. The latter will arrive tonight to attend the funeral but the other children cannot come on account of illness in the family. There is also one brother, Albert Marks, Still at Osage, Kas., and a sister, Mrs. Mary Adams of Lost Spring Kas.

Mr. Marks was a member of the Southern Methodist church of Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 tomorrow afternoon from the late residence, the Rev George Fuskett of Louisville, officiating. Interment will be in National Cemetery, New Albany.
