DOWELL WINSTON-SALEM Gerald Eugene Dowell July 16, 1941 January 9, 2013 Mr. Gerald Eugene Dowell, 71, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away January 9, 2013 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. He graduated from James A. Gray High School where he met the love of his life, Pattie. He worked for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco, Co for 35 years. He, along with his wife, were members of New Philadelphia Moravian Church. Gerald was such a special man with an interest in so many things. He was a true people person. He loved gardening, golf, attending sporting events, especially Wake Forest. He loved their drives to the mountains, Old Salem, and Reynolda Gardens. He loved sitting on his screened porch watching the birds. He adored his children and took such great pride in his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Pattie, of the home: son Gary Dowell wife Beth of Marietta, GA, daughter Melissa Blake and husband Rick of Lewisville, four grandchildren, Adam and Cate Dowell, Sara and Andrew Blake; 3 half sisters, Yvonne Ross of N. Ft. Myers, Fl., Joyce Watts and Pam Moles of Winston-Salem. Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with Dr. Worth Green officiating. Interment will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive family & friends Thursday evening January 10th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller on Silas Creek Parkway. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Forsyth Medical Center and especially Rufus and Tia in the CICU for the care given to Gerald.
