THORNTON, JAMES J. 72 - of Egg Harbor Township, passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2013 surrounded by his loving wife and daughters. Born January 4, 1941 in Atlantic City, he graduated from Holy Spirit High School class of 1959. Jim was a U.S. Marine, serving from 1961 to 1966. He was a longtime Ventnor resident and was a Margate fireman for 25 years. He was also a sub code official in Galloway Twp. for 18 years. Jim is predeceased by his parents, Anne and James, Sr. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 45 years, Carol (Vicchiarelli), his three daughters; Lynn Thornton, Melissa Russell (John), Jayme Gordon (Steve) and his 6 grandchildren; John and Joseph Russell, Olivia, Sean, Ella and Jack Gordon. Brothers and sisters, Donald Devine (Celesk), Pat Thompson (Jim), John Thornton (Ginny), Carol Padgett (Victor), Ed Thornton (Kelly) and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11am, Friday, February 1st, 2013 at the St. Vincent de Paul Church, Rt. 40, Mays Landing. Friends may call at the church beginning at 9am.
