Virgil was born Dec. 12, 1914, in Camp Grove, Ill., to Edward and Matilda (Bickerman) Bogner. He married Grace Catherine Mattern on Feb. 14, 1955. She preceded him in death on March 22, 1996.
Surviving are one son, Tom Bogner of Henry; two daughters, Roberta A. Bogner of Henry and Vicky (George) Lester of Varna; and two grandchildren, George (Nicole) Lester III and Nicole Lester.
A sister, Edna Nichols; and two brothers, Robert and Floyd Bogner, preceded him in death.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Henry, the Henry American Legion Post 323 and the Knights of Columbus.
Virgil was the owner of Bogner Machine Shop in Henry from 1945 to 2004.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Henry, with Father Tom Mizeur officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Calvert-Johnson & McKitrick Memorial Home in Henry, with a scriptural rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Henry.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church renovation fund, the Henry Ambulance Service or American Legion Post 323.
