A Fresno County biography on James Allison.

James R. Allison was a native of Johnson County, Missouri. His early life was spent on his father's farm, during which time he availed himself of what educational advantages were then afforded. At the age of twenty he was happily married to Miss Laura Allison, his cousin, also a native of Missouri, and soon afterward moved to California. They settled in the Sacramento Valley, where he engaged in farming for five years. A brief period was then spent in Missouri, after which they returned to the Golden State and located in the town of Kingsburg, Fresno County. Mr. Allison owned a farm of 240 acres here which he successfully engaged in ranching up to the time of his death in March of 1889. He was a man of many pleasing traits of character, and his amiable qualities won for him many friends.

During his residence at Kingsburg he was identified with the best interests of the community, and had the confidence and respect of all who knew him. His widow and their six children survive him. The names of the latter are as follows: Robert M., Leslie Odell, Charles, May, and Dora and Nora, the twins.
