In 1957, Royal was elected president of the Manitoba College of Physicians and Surgeons. He has completed 42 years of practice in Dauphin, and was honored in 1969 for having practised his profession for 50 years, being presented with a honorary life membership in the Canadian Medical Association.
At the time of his passing, he was survived by his wife, 2 daughters, seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
