William Fields was born Sept. 25, 1926, in San Dimas, Calif., to Harvey and Estella Golweitzer Fields. He married Nola Mae McKool on Dec. 18, 1946, in Eugene.
He served in the Navy in World War II and received the Purple Heart. He had lived in Eugene for 59 years, previously living in Claremont, Calif. He worked in a family logging company for 18 years and worked for Atlas Cylinder for 20 years.
Fields enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and working around his home.
Survivors include his wife; a son, three brothers, a sister, and three grandchildren. A son, Steven, and a daughter, Tami Frank, died previously.

Burial will be in Roseburg National Cemetery.
