He served in the Navy in World War II and received the Purple Heart. He had lived in Eugene for 59 years, previously living in Claremont, Calif. He worked in a family logging company for 18 years and worked for Atlas Cylinder for 20 years.
Fields enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and working around his home.
Survivors include his wife; a son, three brothers, a sister, and three grandchildren. A son, Steven, and a daughter, Tami Frank, died previously.
Burial will be in Roseburg National Cemetery.
