Robert W. Harrison was born in Mississippi in 1888 the seventh of ten children to Rufus R Harrison of North Carolina and Kittie F (maiden name unknown to me at this time) Harrison of Mississippi. At some point he married Julie Walker and they eventually had three children: Robert H Harrison - 12, Juliette F Harrison - 10, and Charles G Harrison - 8 (ages at time of 1930 census).

I originally thought Dr. Robert Walker Harrison, Jr, Find A Grave Memorial# 49546186 was a son and that it was Robert W. in the 1930 census instead of Robert H. The dates would be close, but I cannot connect them for certain. HELP!

Robert W. Harrison received a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1913 from the Dental Department of Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tennessee where he taught for some time after graduation. Meharry Dental College was organized in 1886 and "devoted to education of colored students of both sexes."

He then set up private practice at 709 Franklin in Natchez, Mississippi.

Dr. Harrison prior to 1925 served as the President of the Mississippi Dental Society, not to be confused with the all white (at that time) Mississippi Dental Association. He was also Chairman of the Dental Section of the National Medical Association (an African American organization).
