Betty A. Nilsson of Rockford, Illinois but born in Sweden, received her medical education in the College of Physicians and Surgeons, University of Illinois, where she was supported by the Women's Missionary Society of the Augustana Synod. After her graduation in June, 1907, she served for a year as intern in the Cook County Hospital, Illinois, before departing for Lutheran missionary duties in Rajahmundry, India.
