Doris M. Rater Bentley, 87, of Ripley, died peacefully with her loving family at her side Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at the home of her daughter Linda Lowes. She was born April 21, 1919, in Sherman, a daughter of the late Fred and Mary Booth Rater. She was a 1938 graduate of Sherman Central School. She is survived by her two sons: Roger and Janet Bentley of Rocky Point, NC and Larry and Nancy Bentley of North East; three daughters: Jane and Claude Henry of North East, Diane O'Brien of Dunkirk and Linda and Jerry Lowes of Ripley; a sister, Marjorie Thorp of Ripley; a brother, Gordon Rater of Erie; 12 grandchildren: and 19 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Grove Bentley who passed Nov. 7, 2001; a sister, Ethel Zohns; and a brother, Harold Rater.
