Carlfred Bartholomew Broderick (April 7, 1932 - July 27, 1999) was a nationally and internationally known 20th-century psychologist and pioneering family therapist, a scholar of marriage and family relations at the University of Southern California, and an author of many books. His textbook, "Marriage and the Family" is still widely used. He was a frequently quoted expert on family relations whose sense of humor and lively style earned him 10 appearances on Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" during the 1970s.

Broderick graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1953, earning his bachelor's degree in social relations. He recieved a Ph.D. in child development and family relations from Cornell University.

The son of Frederich Broderick and Napina Bartholomew, Carlfred was born in Salt Lake City in 1932, grew up in Long Beach, California, and died of cancer in 1999 at his home in Cerritos, California at the age of 67.

Carlfred and his wife Kathleen had eight children (four sons and four daughters). He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the capacity of bishop, stake president, and stake patriarch.
