Arringtonn "Arnton" PROPHET, son of William PROFFIT, Sr. and Elizabeth ELMORE. Migrated to Greene County, Missouri abt. 1850 from McMinn County, Tennessee.

The name "James" has been associated with this individual. Arnton did not use the name James in any of the censuses, marriage, or a land documents, is unproven (can be found in some marriage information.) It is not in his obituary, which refers to him as Arrington. A newspaper probate notice calls him Arnton Prophet. The name Arrington came from his grandmother who was named Susannah Arrington. However, Arrington Prophet has been spelled in various ways on the census and documents. Still, there has been no James attached.

The mixup on Arnton's name, which was NOT James, happened because he had a grandson named James Arrington Prophet, the son of Arnton's son John Wesley Prophet and wife Margaret Susan Newman. To make it more complicated, James Arrington Prophet married his first cousin Jemima Elizabeth Prophet, daughter of Arnton's son Benjamin Arrington Prophet and Eunice Elizabeth Grigg.
