Mary (Silva) Costa, age 100, was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010. Mary was born in Sao Vicente, Madeira Portugal and came to the United States at the age of nine. She was a long-time resident of Central Falls, and a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Cumberland. In her 80s, Mary moved to Warren, to live with her daughter. Her residence for the last three years was the Mount Saint Rita Health Centre in Cumberland. Mary was a seamstress for more than 40 years, a proud member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU), and retired from the Bonnie Dress Company after more than 25 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed baking cookies, sewing and crocheting handicrafts native to the Madeira Islands.

She was the beloved wife of the late Anibal Costa. Daughter of the late Manuel and Theresa (Mendes) Silva. Loving mother of the late Leonora C. Andrade and her husband, the late Ernest S. Andrade; loving grandmother of Mark Andrade of Warren, and Paula Hamilton of Stonington, Conn. She leaves three great-grandchildren, Holly Andrade, Haley Hamilton, and Adam Hamilton. Mary was the beloved sister of the late Frank Silva of Tom's River, N.J. She was the beloved "Titia" to many nieces and nephews, whom she loved and cherished. Mary was a loving and caring woman who was devoted to her family and many, many friends.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Saturday, Nov. 27, in the Chapel at the Mount Saint Rita Health Centre in Cumberland. Mary was laid to rest at Saint Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Warren. Mary will be forever missed and loved by all who knew her. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to Mount Saint Rita Health Center, 15 Sumner Brown Road, Cumberland, RI 02864.
