"Gladys L. Claussen, 103, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center in Wabasha. Gladys Lucille Herman was born Sept. 30, 1909, in Quincy Township, Dover, to Dan and Elsie (Johnson) Herman. She attended Schad's Corner rural school and graduated from Plainview High School in 1927. Gladys then attended Winona Normal College. She taught 28 years in rural schools of Wabasha, Winona and Olmsted counties. Gladys then taught eight years at the Plainview Public School as a special education teacher, retiring in 1975. She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview where she served on the ladies aid, Pricilla club and taught release time. On Sept. 5, 1931, Gladys married Ervin Claussen at Immanuel Lutheran. They lived there entire married life in Plainview. Ervin died March 12, 1988. Survivors include one son, Gordon (Glee) Claussen of Lanesboro; one daughter, Marilyn Claussen of Red Wing and daughter-in-law, Bernice Claussen of Rosemount; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vera Schwantz of Plainview. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Wayne and two sisters, Donna Zabel and Maxine Hall. The funeral service will be Saturday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with the Rev. Scott Hirssig officiating. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview.
