Nellie was the daughter of Ansel and Rutha Tipton Bailey and was born in Fannin County, Georgia. One of fourteen children, her siblings were John M., Eliza Jane, Joseph, Hiram Madison, Mary Ann, Stephen Calvin, Wiley Manning, Lovey, Martha, Sarah Melinda, Garrett, William T.S., Josephine.
Nellie's husband, Bob Cook went to Butte, Montana in 1890, sent for the family in 1891 and homesteaded in the Highwoods Mountains.
He and Nellie had children, Florence, Carlie, Clifford, Dora, Betty, Robert Clifton, Minnie and Nettie.
Nellie and her sister Martha married Cook brothers. Martha married Rufus and lived near Marietta, Georgia.
Nellie's nephew, Everett Bailey, son of Stephen and Zilpha Jane, remembers at least one visit from the Cooks back to the North Georgia mountains where they were born.

Mrs. Robert Cook Passes Away
Announcement of the death of Mrs. Cook of this city, on Wednesday morning, brought sorrow to the hearts of her many friends in the county. Mrs. Cook passed away at her home in this city after an illness extending over a considerable time. They had resided in Fort Benton and this section for a good many years, having come to Montana in 1891 and resided for a time in Butte and Bozeman, coming later to this city.
Mrs. Cook was born in 1860 in Fanning county, Georgia, being 66 years of age at the time of her death. She was married in 1875 to Mr. Cook and to this union eight children were born, one son dying in Georgia at about 8 years of age.
Mrs. Cook leaves to mourn her death her husband and seven children: Florence Penland, Fort Benton; Carl Cook, Laredo, Mont.; Clifford Cook, Buffalo, Wyo.; Dora Murray, Lewistown; Mrs. Sam Bright, Fort Benton; Minnie Ham, Alberta, Can.; and Nettie Irving, Valier, all being present except Mrs. Ham.
The funeral services were held from the home Saturday and were conducted by the Rev. David Hardy, of the Methodist Church. Her body was laid to rest in Riverside cemetery.
