Eliza is the 4 x great granddaughter of Elder John Strong and Abigail Ford Strong. She was born in New York, but later her family relocated to Mississippi where she met and married Amzi Walton Byers in 1847. She became Amzi's second wife and step mother to three children by his first wife.

In addition to raising three step children, John A Byers, Mary Jane Byers, and Louise Byers Hartsfield, Eliza was the mother of seven more children by Amzi, five of whom reached adulthood (see Family Links below).

After Amzi died in 1879, Eliza went to live with their son Henry Walton Byers and his family, along with Eliza's daughter Laura Johnston Byers, in Mississippi.

By the time of the 1900 U.S. census, Eliza was living with her youngest daughter Julia Byers Logan and son-in-law William Lee Logan in Texas.

Eliza is buried in the same family plot as William Lee Logan's parents, Rev. Robert Logan and Elizabeth Jane Logan, and her granddaughter Louise Logan. Her half-sister Louise Byers Hartsfield, brother-in-law J. M. Hartsfield, and niece Blanche Hartsfield Henderson are also buried in the same family plot.

Eliza is my great great grandmother.
