Raymond Woodley Ash
Vo-Tech grad served in Persian Gulf War
Raymond Woodley Ash, 41, of Espy, died suddenly Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at the home of his parents in rural Nescopeck.
Born in Berwick on Nov. 11, 1968, he was a son of Raymond S. Ash Jr. and Agnes Marie (Camillocci) Ash. He was the husband of Lori Jean Bird Ash, whom he married Aug. 26, 1995.
Ray graduated from the Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech School, where he studied electronics. He later became a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, where he worked in avionics. Ray served a year in Japan prior to serving in the Persian Gulf during the first Gulf War. Following his military service, he owned and operated Ray's Electrical Service, Espy.
He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who enjoyed recreational shooting and was also a member of the NRA. He was a superb craftsman and woodworker. Ray will most be remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, son and brother.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his son, Joshua Alan Ash, who lives at home. Other survivors include: brother, Cory William Ash Sr. and his wife, Natalie Jean, Nescopeck; nephew, Cory William Ash Jr. and his wife, Shelby, Nescopeck; nieces, Shayla Reneé Ash and Sacora Blu Ash, both of Nescopeck; great-niece, Madison Jean Ash, Nescopeck; mother-in-law, Iris L. Bird, Catawissa, and numerous aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Fred O. Bird.
There will be no visitation. His funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church, 2575 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg. Pastor Gordon E. Smith will officiate. Interment with military honors will be at the Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wilkes-Barre VA Hospital, Attn.: Voluntary Services, 1111 East End Blvd., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711.
The McMichael & Rairigh Funeral Home Inc., 119-121 E. Third St., Berwick, is assisting the Ash family with the service arrangements.
