Gloria Jean Mattern, 73, Hollidaysburg, died Friday at home after a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Alvin and Marjorie (Hyle) Shinafelt. On Aug. 15, 1959, she married Donald Mattern at the United Methodist Church, Canoe Creek.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; children: Cynthia Kuester and husband, Henry, Ricky Mattern and wife, Katharine, and Crystal Wilson and husband, George; a brother, Terry Shinafelt and spouse, Cheryl; six grandchildren: Kelly Huss, James Low, Richard Mattern, Amanda Mattern, Dylan Wilson and Hunter Wilson; and six great-grandchildren.
Gloria was a member of United Methodist Church, Canoe Creek.
She retired from Central Dauphin School District, Harrisburg.
She was a graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School.
Gloria enjoyed doing crafts, hunting, baking and especially displaying her Christmas village.
Friends will be received 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, where a memorial service will be held at 8 p.m., Pastor Joe Barrett and Gordy Trimmer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Blair Unit, 1004 N. Juniata St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
