Star Ballerina. She was the last "prima ballerina" of the Russian Empire (1916) in the Mariinski Theater of Saint Petersburg. Educated for the great masters Fokin, Legat, Sokolova and others, she graduated in the 1906 Class of the Imperial School. Smirnova was partenaire of the great Nijinsky in many ocassions. Married to the coreographer Boris Romanov, they made the first tour to Japan (1916.) In 1920 they run away from Russia and after many successes along Europe, they traveled to Argentina. She had her last success at the Colón Theater of Buenos Aires in 1928. After her retirement, she dedicated to teach ballet to the new generations, creating many talented Argentine dancers and professors.
