Vito Anthony 'David' DeCriscio Jr.

Vito Anthony "David" DeCriscio Jr., 71, Altoona, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus, after an extended illness.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Vito Anthony DeCriscio and Julia (Astore) DeCriscio Roselle. He married Patricia Louise Hand Oct. 13, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Altoona, where he formerly was a member.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Connie Louise (DeCriscio) Stewart and husband, Robert, of Altoona; grandson, Sgt. James Paul DeCriscio, (U.S. Army), and wife, Sydney; granddaughters: Leigha and Leisha Stewart; great-grandchildren: Saidi and Hannah; brothers: Daniel DeCriscio and wife, Miriam, in North Carolina, Michael Roselle and wife, Liz, of Baltimore and Michael DeCriscio of Seattle; and sisters: Kathryn Roselle of Altoona and Carmella DeCriscio in California. Vito was preceded in death by his son, Tony Daniel DeCriscio; daughter-in-law, Teresa DeCriscio; grandchildren: Richard and Christina DeCriscio; brother, Frank DeCriscio; stepfather, Philip Roselle; and parents-in-law, Paul and Annetta Hand.

Vito retired from the United States military in 1976 after 24 years of service as a hospital corpsman and then as a radar repairman in the signal corps. Vito was a Vietnam veteran, serving from 1965-66. After military service, Vito received his teaching certificate from Texas A&M University and taught as a high school vocational instructor in electronics. He also received certification as a correctional officer from the University of Houston. Vito then retired from Continental Airlines, Houston. He had a private pilots license, flight instructor license and ground school instructors license.

A funeral service was held Saturday, March 31, 2007, at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., Altoona, officiated by the Rev. Scott Custead. Committal with military honors was held at Alto Reste Park.
