"La China" as she was affectionately known to all of us who loved and knew her, was born in abject poverty. When she was 9 years old, her mother passed away and she had to take up the duties of caretaker for her family. She married twice, but had no children. She was a Yoruba priestess, her mother, Yemaya and her father, Oggun. She was one of the sweetest, kindest human beings I have ever known, offering her hospitality to anyone in need. She died due to complications of pneumonia.
