Michael was born August 21, 1980. It was a Thursday morning at 10:43. He was born in Malden, Mass. He had an older brother named Paul. I remember when we were outside playing in the street squirting each other with the garden hose, when Mikey fell off the truck trying to get something out of a tree and needed stitches on his head.
Mikey loved to read, go to the movies, his favorite shampoo was Pantene, favorite actor was Denzel Washington.
He loved to play football and wrestle. He was captain of both during high school. His goal was to be an Electrician and to work as a Firefighter. He passed the Electrical Exam. After his death I got the letter, it read, "Michael you have passed the firefighters exam with a score of 93%. He never got to read it. He loved to go fishing. He collected football and baseball cards. He had a loving and compassionate personality. He loved to play video games. He had wonderful friends. He loved to water ski, snow ski and go tubing and boating. He loved to go to his grandparents cottage in Antrim, N.H.
His life ended to soon after battling the disease of addiction. He lost his battle on May 15, 2004. He was alone on his bedroom floor. He was living in Malden.
His life ended from and overdose of heroin/cocaine. He stopped breathing, his heart stopped beating, his dreams ended, my world was shattered.
You will always remain in my heart my dear son. You will never be forgotten.
Your name will live on through me , your family, friends and the "Michael DiGiantommaso Memorial Scholarship"
I Love You Mikey,

~ Fly, by Celine Dion ~
Fly, Precious Child Fly,
Fly little Wing
Fly beyond imagining. The softest cloud, the whitest Dove.
Upon the wind of Heaven's Love.
Past the planets and the stars.
Leave this lonely world of ours.
Escape the sorrow and the pain.
Fly,Fly Precious One.
Your endless journey has begun.
Take your Gentle happiness.
Far too beautiful for this.
Cross over to the other shore.
There is Peace Forevermore.
But hold this memory bittersweet.
Until we Meet.
Fly, Fly do not Fear. Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear.
Your heart is Pure, Your soul is Free.
Be on your way, don't wait for me.
Above the universe you'll climb.
On beyond the hands of time.
The moon will rise, the sun will set.
But, I won't forget.
Fly, Fly Little Wing,
Fly where only Angels.
SingFly Away, the time is right.
Go now, Find the Light.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR KIND WORDS AND GIFTS. IT IS A MOST RECENT POST OF COMPASSION THAT PROMPTED ME TO WRITE.
SOME MAY FEEL SHOCKED WHEN I WROTE ABOUT MY MICHAEL'S DEATH. ADDICTION IS A DISEASE, ONE THAT ISN'T PRETTY OR TALKED ABOUT OPENLY. I NEVER TOLD ANYONE, NEVER TURNED TO ANYONE FOR HELP. I WAS ASHAMED. BUT, TODAY AFTER EDUCATING MYSELF AND SPEAKING TO STUDENTS AND PARENTS ABOUT THIS HORRIFYING AND DEADLY DISEASE I HAVE COME TO REALIZE THAT NO ONE WAKES UP AND THINKS THIS WILL HAPPEN TO THEM. KIDS/PEOPLE EXPERIMENT AND ONE NEVER KNOWS IF THEIR EXPERIMENTATION WILL LEAD TO ULTIMATE ADDICTION. FOR THOSE WHO KNEW MY SON KNOW THAT HE WAS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE. A KID WITH A COMPASSION FOR LIFE.
IF SHARING MY SON'S STORY WILL SAVE THE LIFE OF JUST ONE PARENTS CHILD, ONE PARENTS PAIN, THEN I AM GRATEFUL I SHARED MY SON'S STORY. TO THOSE KEEPING THEIR "SECRET" SEEK HELP BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. NO ONE CAN FACE THIS MONSTER ALONE.
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR LOVE, SUPPORT AND KIND WORDS. I AM SO HAPPY I FOUND F.A.G.
