A stand-up comic and actor, in 1990, Rick Aviles had two small supporting roles in two of the years' Academy Award for Best Picture nominees, Ghost (as Willie Lopez) and The Godfather Part III (as Mask #1). Aviles was the brother of actress Angel Aviles and stand-up comic Rod Reyes. Having contracted HIV through heroin use, Aviles died of AIDS-related heart failure. He was cremated and his ashes were given to his mother who was living in Venice at the time of his death.
