Funeral of Isom Allgood

The funeral of Isom H. Allgood, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Allgood, was held at Macedonia Church, Sunday afternoon, at three o'clock, under the auspices of the John Edwards Post, American Legion.

Rev. J. H. Rogers, pastor, as a part of the service conducted in the church, gave an interesting history of the deceased, stating that he was born in 1888 and died in France, as a member of the American Expeditionary Forces in July, 1918, three days after being wounded by shrapnel, and soon after his arrival in France. A brother of Isom Allgood landed in France soon after the death of the young man, who was buried from the hospital in France. The body, like those of many other American soldiers who perished abroad, was recently brought to New York and arrived in Brookhaven Saturday afternoon under military escort and was received by many friends and members of the American Legion. It was later carried to the home community of the deceased.

Music by the Macedonia choir was a part of the church service.

At the grave, the American Legion took charge, giving full military honors. About fifty ex-service men were present, most of them in uniform. Officers were Col George Hoskins, Major O. N. Arrington and Major W. S. Rutter. Major Arrington acted as chaplain, reading the service. This, with the bugle call and salute to the colors preceding and the firing of a salute by a squad and "taps" by Dewitt Love at the close, formed a solemn and impressive ceremony.

Pallbearers were sailors in uniform.

Many beautiful floral offerings expressed the love and sympathy of friends of the deceased and the bereaved family.
