SPC. Christian J. Chandler, 20, of Trenton, Texas, died April 28 in Baraki Barak District, Logar province, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort Drum, New York. Pfc Chandler was born January 20, 1994 in Texarkana, Texas to Rhonda Chandler Beazley and departed this life on April 28, 2014 while serving his country in Baraki Barak District, Logar Province, Afghanistan. Jake graduated from Whitewright High School in 2012 where he was a Varsity All District offensive and defensive lineman. Following graduation Jake chose his career and enlisted in the United States Army. In October 2012, Jake began his training at Ft. Benning, GA. Following boot camp, he was stationed at Ft. Drum, NY where he was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Jake deployed with his unit on November 5, 2013 to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Jake's awards and decorations include Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge and was promoted to service rank of Specialist. Jake is survived by his parents Joe Chat III and Rhonda Chandler Beazley, sister Katie, grandparents Joe Chat Jr. and Alice Beazley, aunt Lana Harvey, uncles Bryan Beazley and Ben Chandler, numerous cousins and loved ones as well as an Army of Brothers. Awaiting Jake in Heaven are his grandparents Jerry and Modene Chandler and cousin Laura Beazley. Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commended you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Funeral services for Jake will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Mullican-Little Funeral Chapel in Bells/Savoy, Texas. Mr. Philip Smith and General Christopher Bentley will officiate. Interment with full military honors will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Whitewright, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Friday, May 9, 2-14 at Mullican-Little Funeral Home.
