Purchased by leading French owner and breeder, Marcel Boussac, among his significant race wins at age three Asterus won the Grand Handicap International d'Ostende in Belgium and the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, France's most important event for three-year-old colts. At four, he won major races in England.
A very successful sire at his owner's stud farm, in 1934 Asterus was the leading sire in France and from 1943-1948, the leading broodmare sire. Asterus also sired top division runners in both Italy and Germany.
Asterus suffered a heart attack and died at age 15 in February of 1938.
