He was born in Ruth, MS, to the late Cana and Eugene Huhn. While in Waco attending the U.S. Army Air Force Academy in 1941, he met Abbie Mae Jones. They wed on June 1, 1943. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a Military Police from Oct, 1941 to Nov, 1945, during which time he spent one year in Saipan during World War II. Elie spent the rest of his life in Robinson and was employed at Shepard Door & Glass, Central Freight Lines, Waco Hardware, and retired in 1990 from Young Bros. Construction. He worked for many years with the HOT Fair and Baylor University, parking cars, and was a member of the Robinson Volunteer Fire Dept. for over 20 years. He volunteered with Caritas Trail Ride, was a member of VFW 2148, and up until his last weeks, he worked with Bellmead Speedway at the pit gate. He enjoyed family gatherings, especially all the kids, telling true life tales was his number one past time and going riding with his favorite wrecker driver, BIG JOHN.
Among those preceding him in death were brothers, Herby, Preston, Roy, Clarence and Junior Huhn.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Abbie Mae Huhn; son, Elie Q. Huhn, Jr. and wife, Charlotte, of Robinson; daughters, Delores Clark and husband, Mark, of Robinson and Abbie Markum and husband, David, of Pearland; brother, Edward Huhn and wife, Nell, of Jackson, MS; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family including nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, cousins, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren in Texas and Mississippi.
