Alma Louise Gordon Smith, 88, passed away at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center on February 2, 2014 after a brief illness.
Mrs. Smith was born in McComb, Mississippi on March 14, 1925 to Thomas Jefferson Gordon and Alma Jennings Gordon.
She was a graduate of McComb High School and Copiah - Lincoln Community College. After graduation she served as secretary to the president for 38 years and under the administration of three presidents. Gifted in music, she served as pianist and organist at Wesson Baptist Church for many years. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling as well as serving in local missions. Following the death of her husband, she relocated to Madison to be close to her children and became a faithful member of Broadmoor Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Grover Smith, and brothers Thomas Ray Gordon and Robert Bailey Gordon.
Survivors include her son Thomas H. (Tommy) Smith of Jackson and Terry Gordon Smith of Houston, TX; grandsons Thomas W. Smith (Yvonne) of Sugar Land TX and William R. Smith (Mary Ann) of Franklin, TN.; and great grandchildren Caitlin, Trent, Carter and Amelia Smith.
The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care and many acts of kindness of Dr. Samuel H. Peeples, Dr. Allen M. Haraway and the entire 6th floor staff at Baptist Hospital in Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering c/o the International Mission Board, P.O. Box 6767 Richmond, VA 23230-0767 or Compassion International, Colorado Springs, CO 80997.
There will be a time of visitation at Riverwood Family Funeral Services in Brookhaven on February 6, 2014 from 9:00-11:00 am with graveside at 11:30 am at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Caseyville.
