Artist. She was a Swedish designer and artist. Born Karin Bergöö, the daughter of a wealthy businessman, she was the wife of famed Swedish artist Carl Larsson. As a couple, they formed an aesthetic partnership. She is acknowledged as "the creator of the Swedish style," meaning interior design and decorations of textiles and furniture among other things. Breaking away from the dark interior designs, she used bright colors and designed furniture that local carpenters would build. Showing early artistic talent, she studied at the French School in Stockholm, before the Academy of Arts and The Arts and Crafts School in Stockholm. After relocating to Paris, she met her future husband Larsson at the Swedish artist colony in Gerz outside Paris. Following the birth of their first child in 1884, they moved to a cottage outside Falun in Sweden Lilla Hyttnäs, which is today known as "The Carl Larsson Estate" in Sundborn. Becoming a family, she devoted all her efforts in taking care of the household, which included the house, husband and eight children in addition to artistic endeavors. She was a model for her husband's paintings. Her designs gave way to a new approach to interior design that continues to influence designers today. She made and designed all exclusive textiles and some furniture in the house, which were honored with an exhibition at Victoria & Albert Museum in London in 1997. A book was published covering this exhibition.
