Charles "Chuck" Markulis, 71, died June 26, 2008 in Grass Valley, California. Services for Chuck were held on July 2 at Green Hills Mortuary, Rancho Palos Verdes. He was born Jan. 30, 1937, in Pennsylvania to George and Terpsihori Markulis, originally from Crete, Greece. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marquita Markulis. Charles was a fullback for San Pedro High School football and made All-City. He went on to play football for Everette Junior College in Washington where he made All-American. He then went on to work in the music business, where he & friend Larry Nelson formed Nite Owl Records in Seattle, Washington and produced several hit records, including "Love You So" by Ron Holden, which spent several weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Charts. Chuck owned several restaurants in Southern California and became a Billiard Tournament Promoter at Varsity Billiards in Norwalk, Hard Times Billiards in Bellflower, Hard Times Billiards in La Habra, Hard Times Billiards in San Diego and Hard Times Billiards in Sacramento.

Hard Times Billiards, Sacramento, holds an annual "Chuck Markulis Memorial Jamboree" in February each year. It is Hard Times' biggest event of the year. The tournament draws the best pool players in the world to Sacramento to honor Chuck Markulis who brought pool on the west coast to an all new level for decades. Chuck promoted and brought to life the biggest and best tournaments that are even today (2014) talked about as legend in billiard history.
