Max H. Amber, 82, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, April 28, 2006, at Pleasant Park Estates in Oskaloosa. He was born December 25, 1923, at Bucknell, Iowa, the son of Claude C. and Jennie I. Clair Amber. In 1942 Max enlisted in the United States Army, and served his country for 23 years retiring in 1965. While in the military Max was awarded 2 purple hearts, a bronze star, and a good conduct medal. Following his discharge from the military, he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and worked in a factory. Then he moved to Oskaloosa and went to work in the machine shop at Clow Valve Company, and retired from there in 1985, after 15 years. Max was a 32nd degree member of the Masons, the KAABA Shrine Temple in Davenport, the Oskaloosa Shrine Firemen, and the V.F.W. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, woodworking, and participating in parades with the Shrine Firemen.

His family includes his wife, Betty Amber of Oskaloosa; a daughter: Ursula Wycoff of Goshen, Ohio; a son: Daryl Amber of Goshen, Ohio; 3 step daughters: Elizabeth Sneller of Oskaloosa, Diane (& James) Maher of Atlanta, Georgia, and Angie (& Kelly) Marshall of Omaha, Nebraska; a step son: Paul Mitrisin of Bloomington, Illinois; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; a step great grandchild; 2 brothers and their wives: James and Mary Jane Amber of Harvey, and Fred and Marilyn Amber of Riviera, Arizona; and a sister and her husband: Betty and Walt Harbaugh of Clay City, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Perry Amber; a sister: Mary Ann Green; and 4 brothers: Robert, Joe, William, and Eugene Amber.

Funeral services for Max Amber will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Joe Beal officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Lovillia, Iowa with graveside Military Rites given by members of the Oskaloosa veteran's organizations. Visitation will begin Monday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Monday evening from 6:30 ? 8 to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospitals.
