Simpson F Cain, 85 of Gravette AR, died Saturday July 2, 2005. He was born Nov 19, 1919, in Witchita Kansas to Simpson Cain and Eva Cain.

He married Vivian Spencer on Sept 1, 1942. He worked for 35 years at the Naval Weapons Center, wher he was an engineering tech for the Minuteman Missle. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean War. He participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. A naval battle of the Pacific Campaign of World War II fought around the island of Leyte in the Philippines from Oct 23 to Oct 26, 1944. He was a navalman on the USS Gambier Bay and participated in a fierce battle with the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Allied invasion of Leyte.
Although the battle was won by Allied Forces, the Gambier Bay was sunk Cain and his fellow servivors had to swim for serveral days before being rescued.

He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He enjoyed woodworking, being a mechanic and flea markets.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Ann Spencer-Cain, on Feb 2 (typo should be Feb 23, 2003); a granddaughter Robbi Smith, Jan 1999; and a son-n-law Milford Smith, June 24, 2003.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Smith of Gravette; Three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.

Visitation will be from 8 am to 11 am, Thursday July 7 at the Callison-Lough Funeral Chapel in Gravette.

Funeral service will be at 11am Thursday, July 7 at the Callison-Lough chapel with Chaplin Jackie Hoffarth.

Burial with Military Honors will be the at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Gravette.
