He was killed while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Anbar province, Iraq. He was conducting patrols against enemy forces in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. This was his second tour in Iraq. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in July of 2003. Among his military awards and decorations were the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2nd award); Humanitarian Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Combat Action Ribbon (2nd award); and Purple Heart Medal.

He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Lawrence Ridel Sr., and Roy Bixler; and his uncle and godfather, Larry Ridel Jr. He was survived by his parents; his twin sister; his grandmothers; and his aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Interment on May 18, 2006.
