Maj. David L. Audo of Saint Joseph, Illinois attended St. Joseph-Ogden High School and went on to the University of Illinois ROTC program, where he proudly graduated with distinction. He held a BS in Architecture from the University of Illinois, a Master's degree in Business and Organizational Security Management from Webster University, and was a graduate of the United States Army Military Police School, the Intermediate Level Education Program at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the Defense Language Institute's Foreign Language Center. David had been awarded two Bronze Stars for meritorious service during combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, the NATO Medal for two tours in Kosovo, four Army Achievement medals, two Army Commendation medals, two Meritorious Service medals, as well as numerous other awards. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Audo of St. Joseph, and Rosilla Audo Hutson of Phoenix, Ariz. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Johnson Audo; son, Austin Audo; and daughter, Ashley Audo. Also surviving are his brothers, Victor (Julie) Audo of Mahomet and Michael (Julie) Audo of Wichita, Kan.; sisters Carol Dobbs of Champaign and Therese (Ron) Eggett of Urbana; mother-in-law Edith Hollen of Oakwood; father-in-law Lloyd Johnson of Brownsville, Texas; brother-in-law Lloyd (Carol) Johnson of Mt. Dora, Fla.; sister-in-law Star (Brad) Andrews of Urbana; brother-in-law Randy (Sue) Johnson of Fithian; and several nieces and nephews. Dave possessed a quick wit and a big, mischievous grin. He enjoyed fast cars and faster motorcycles, but his highest priorities were always reserved for his wife, his children, and his steadfast duty to the United States Army, where he served with dignity, honor and respect. Dave will be sorely missed by all that knew him, and the nation is a better and safer place for the short time he was with us. He died at age 35 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident.
